President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that Nigerians voted for him overwhelmingly during the March 28 presidential election because they were tired of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Buhari made this observation in Johannesburg on Monday when he met Nigerians residing in South Africa.
He said: “Government is determined to secure the country, manage the economy, create employment and fight corruption. Some articulate writers have said if we do not kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria. This APC administration intends to kill corruption in Nigeria. We will do our best; I assure you.
“We are getting the facts and logistic requirements together,” he assured,
He called on Nigerians resident in South Africa to be good ambassadors of the country, stressing that Nigerian and South African leaders will soon meet to discuss several issues bordering on their relationship.
“Those of you who have the opportunity to come here and represent us, make sure that you are representing Nigeria, you are all ambassadors of Nigeria. This means a lot of patience, restraint, self respect and pride. You must have all these,” the President stated.
He said: “But I assure you that after being in the military for 25 years, and getting to the highest rank and becoming head of state and under unusual circumstances. As head of state I went straight to detention for three and half years, so those who are accusing me of locking them up, I too have been locked up, so what.”
He said: “They remember me more as chairman of PTF than as a former head of state, than a governor or a minister of petroleum. Despite the fact that it was during my time that I signed the contract for Warri refinery, Kaduna refinery, more than 3,500 pipelines and more than 20 depot. We got the tankers off the road, we saved lives, we saved fuel, we save the road itself. But from 1999 till date PDP has messed it up. That is why Nigerians decided to vote me.
“Despite the fact that they say money is working from primaries to my election is a proof that Nigerians know what they want once they make up their minds. You can give them the money, some refuse to take it, some took it and said it is our money and they do exactly what they wanted to do.
“So, why did I join partisan politics in spite of that? When I went home people knew that I have no money, I thought they will leave me alone, but they didn’t they were coming to me asking me to do this and do that. And I found that the only way I could do it is by joining partisan politics. And maybe if I speak even if I’m not a member at any level, people will listen to me.
“The second that happened that finally convinced me to join partisan politics was what happened to Soviet Union. You know the Soviet Union was an empire in the 20th century and it collapsed without a shot being fired. Everybody went home, there was confusion.
“Now, there are 18 countries out of the old Soviet Union. They were more advanced than the western countries in science because they wanted to go to space specifically in 1957, and they had more nuclear war heads and delivering system than Warsaw”.
Today marks the beginning of a new era we have all been praying for in Nigeria as General Buhari takes the mantle of leadership as the President of Nigeria.
On March 28, 2015 Nigerians in their wisdom said no more to lack of development and to stealing and corruption whether they are the same or different.
We are not happy the way GEJ ruined our nation, but we are grateful to him for making the transition happen peacefully and without shedding blood.
The expectation is high not in Buhari but in The God that has helped us thus far.
Buhari as the President alone cannot turn the nation around. That job is for you and me. We must all shun corruption, the spirit of 'get rich quick' and ostentatious materialism and be willing to make the necessary sacrifice. Let us cooperate with him to move Nigeria forward. We expect him to make harsh decisions, step on toes, but get the job done. Nigeria is highly endowed with both human and natural resources all we need is manage them without being greedy, but have tremendous consideration for others, particularly the youth and the underprivileged.
President Buhari does not have to be a Christian to rebuild our nation, he could be the Cyrus that God has anointed to rebuild our nation.
Let us pray for wisdom for him particularly to select a reputable team who are focused and willing to make Nigeria great not to make their bank accounts fat!
God and the people told Joshua when he was taking over from Moses be strong and courageous. May God give him strength and courage to deal with the occupants of the land and distribute(develop) the land for us all.
May Nigeria become the land that flows with milk and honey.
God bless the new Nigeria!
Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Pastor Amos Dada
Mama Africa,
[You are a] beautiful Black rose.
You are like Black liquid gold that rose.
Sunflower that I call Rwanda or Lily of love that reminds us of ex-Zaire.
Here is [your] moment of celebration,
Tasted dose by dose.
Gabon — here — will be offered like a daisy,
Malawi will compliment you the most.
Blind were those who injured you without cause.
Radiant smile that heals the wounded Souls and keeps on comforting aching Spirits just because….
You glow!
Despite the injustice you have endured and the prejudices stigmatizing by default,
Your Beauty and Intelligence allow us to revolt.
Pain and exploitation, today, are revoked.
You are the comfort of your children,
From Angola to Zimbabwe, you are.
They just have to look at your stance and their strengths gets renewed,
Yet they are [not] from Pluto nor Mars.
Your presence is divine,
How can they be apart?
We share the same spirit, dear brother from Burkina-Faso,
Dear sister from Lesotho,
And fellows from Madagascar.
We were never entrusted with our own wealth,
But today we are.
And although you are in Burundi and feel like we are far…
From each other,
Closer to Her we are as we make her whole — not just a small part.
You are like Black liquid gold that rose.
My fellow Africans, African Americans, and Caribbean people,
you are Bold and Brown and known by your luscious lips
Or even beautiful nose.
Being a head of their time, your watch froze.
Black liquid gold that rose.
In this field full of thorns and sunflowers, you rose.
Disposable, they think we all are, just because.
Testing our powers, they attempted and are still trying to inject fear and disasters in to our communities dose by dose.
You are Monumental, that’s your sole cause.
No fewer than 35 out of the 59 APC Senators-elect current attending a retreat organized by the party’s leadership at Ibeto Hotel, Abuja have adopted former governor of Kwara state, Senator Bukola Saraki as the party’s sole candidate for the position of Senate President in 8th Senate due to be inaugurated June 4.
A statement issued by the Senators-elect under the umbrella of ‘Like Minds Senators’ and signed by their spokesman, Senator-elect Dino Melaye also said that they will support the emergence of a Deputy Senate President from the North East. While Senator Ali Ndume (APC Borno) is hoping to emerge the DSP from the zone, Senator Ahmad Lawan from Yobe is battling to take the seat from Saraki.
Part of the statement reads “Senators of the like mind are here today at the retreat organized by our dear Party All Progressive Congress, which is meant to equip and empower Senators-Elect of the 8th Assembly to prepare them toward the challenges ahead. We commend the leadership of our party for this timely and well-focused exercise.
“The issue of National Assembly leadership is about integrity, competence, discipline and leadership skills and not about fixing of candidates just for mere horse-trading. Our stand is about electing a senator who eventually becomes the chairman of National Assembly and relates with the executive on behalf of Nigerians, fellow Senators and the National Assembly as an institution.
“Furthermore leadership of National Assembly, is about the Senator that has the wherewithal to stabilize the legislative institution, working with the executive and judicial arm of government to be effective and perform to their optimal capacity.
“In addition, we are aware of the fact that ALL Senators from the North Central zone has taken a firm position that they are only interested in the office of the Senate President which has been earlier zoned by the National Working Committee of our party and we are also aware that North Central Senators have resolved to abide by the resolution of the zone on a single candidate and anything short of this is an attempt to jeopardize the collective interest of the zone.
“Of the 59 Senators of the APC, 35 of us present here today hereby reaffirm our collective commitment and resolution to ensure that the candidature of Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki as the Senate President of 8th Assembly. We also resolved that the office of the Deputy Senate President be zoned to the North East.”
The swearing-in of Rivers state governor-elect, Nyesom Wike by Bayelsa's chief justice breaks Nigeria's constitution, according to Lagos-based constitutional lawyer, Jiti Ogunye.
In a Premium Times report, he says the Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke, has no powers to direct the Bayelsa State Chief Judge, Kate Abiri, to administer oaths to Rivers State Governor-elect.
“Administering the oaths is the exclusive business of the Judiciary. The AGF is a lawyer, no doubt, but he functions in the Federal Executive branch of the government,” Mr. Ogunye said.
“In order to avoid the subversion of the principles of separation of powers and checks and balances, carefully and deliberately grafted into the Nigerian Constitution, the AGF must avoid giving patently illegal directives to the heads of the judiciary to perform their duties.
“Any such directive is constitutionally baseless and politically reckless.”
To avoid the looming constitutional crisis in the state due to the absence of a substantive chief judge, Mr. Ogunye said the AGF could send a petition to the National Judicial Council, NJC, to issue appropriate directive to cause the swearing in of the new governor.
Alternatively, he said, the AGF could file an originating summons in the Supreme Court against the Attorney-General of Rivers State and those of the other states in the Federation, formulating relevant questions and requesting for reliefs that would strengthen the rule of law and grow constitutional jurisprudence in the country.
He noted that any attempt by Mr. Adoke to command a chief judge of a contiguous state or of any state in the Federation to swear in Mr. Wike would tantamount to meddlesomeness in the affairs of Rivers State.
However, Lagos-based lawyer, Festus Keyamo, had on Monday argued that the AGF is right in directing Mrs. Abiri, to administer the oath of office to the governor-elect of Rivers State.
Prince Uche Secondus, Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has taken over as acting chairman of the party; VANGUARD reports.
Secondus' reportedly took over few minutes after Mu'azu tendered his resignation.
Outgoing Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi has predicted that Governor-elect Nyesom Wike will have a tough time in office.
THIS DAY reports that Amaechi made the disclosure on Sunday in Port Harcourt at a special thanksgiving service held by the Greater Together Campaign Organisation (GTCO), the campaign outfit of the Rivers All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr. Dakuku Peterside.
Amaechi said, ''God answered our prayers to save us. He also answered our prayers to save Nigeria. I’m not joking, we have no money anywhere. In Rivers State, no money. I think Nyesom Wike is coming, we are waiting. He will look for money for salary; there is none. Luckily for us, we endured these pains because we had to pay our loans.
''We are enduring the pain because we are paying our loans. Maybe he is lucky because we have paid out a lot of our loans if not all. So, he will have to manage. But when he pays out salary, we will see if any of them can do what we did in this state: whether they can build the schools, the roads, even to get a loan''.

“Your mother was not properly married to your father” – David Mark insults Dan Onjeh
Door2Door Organization, the official campaign team of Senate President, David Mark has fired back at Dan Onjeh, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Benue South Senatorial District election, describing him as a disrespectful child.
Onjeh, a former students’ leader had in a statement described Mark’s recent visit to the president-elect as a ‘wild goose chase.’
According to Onjeh, Mark’s visit to Gen. Buhari would not save his already dying political career.
Reacting to Onjeh’s assertion, the national coordinator of Door2Door, James Oche in a statement stated that Onjeh was over stepping his boundary and should be called to order.
Oche said Onje’s action shows that he mother was not properly married to his father.
The statement reads.
“I do not want to dignify a certain Daniel Onjeh with a response. I believe that in our culture and indeed African, tradition is held in high esteem and respect for elders is an integral part, when a young man consistently misbehaves there is a tendency to ask if his mother was properly married to his father, Daniel Onjeh arguably fit into this category.
For the avoidance of doubt His Excellency Sen. David Mark GCON visited President-Elect Gen Mohammed Buhari on Thursday 23rd April 2015 at about 2p.m on the invitation of the latter as a senior citizen of Nigeria.
Of course there was exchange of barters and issues of National concern where discussed by the two leaders.
For a certain Onjeh to resort to insult on the Senate President for honouring an invitation extended to him by our respected President -Elect is throwing caution to the winds. One wonders when it has become an offence to Honour an invitation.
This clearly marks Onjeh out as a child with a very faulty upbringing. To put the records straight, Sen. Mark does not need to campaign for votes in Benue south senatorial Zone. His land mark achievements are enough evidence to sell him any day.
But as a humble leader, he still went to all the nooks and crannies to canvass for votes; of course, the result was overwhelming as he won the election clean and clear.
Everybody on the streets of Benue south can attest to the quality representation and dividends of democracy including but not limited to 14,685 students of tertiary institutions who were placed on scholarships.
Ordinarily, the lot of them would not have had access to education, but did based on the scholarship of Sen. Mark through the David Mark scholarship foundation.
This is beside other categories of physically challenged orphan and gifted girl child on full scholarship. Onjeh should not forget that in Idoma Land respect for elders is sacrosanct.
That whatever his ambition or that of his pay masters may be no logic can diminish the solid facts of Sen. Mark’s achievements.
Above all Sen. Mark adorns a garment made by God and washed by Angel which a thousand Onjeh’s cannot stain or drag into mud.
Onjeh, a former president of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NAN, and West African Students Union, WASU, was yet to react to the statement”.
Lord Greville Janner, now 86, was accused of sexually abusing children from the 1960s to the 1980s.
LONDON – Lord Greville Janner, a Jewish peer who is suffering from dementia, was informed Thursday that despite police claims of ‘evidence’ of child sex abuse, he will not face prosecution. He has repeatedly denied all charges relating to alleged events between 1969 and 1988.
Director of Public Prosecutions Alison Saunders, who took the decision, said the police had enough evidence to charge him with 22 types of sexual offenses. She said most of these involved nine males, some under the age of 16.
But angry police chiefs in Leicestershire, the central England area which includes the constituency Janner represented in Parliament, have indicated that they are investigating ways to overcome the prosecution’s decision and bring him to court to face his alleged victims.
Leicestershire Police Assistant Chief Commissioner Roger Bannister expressed his “great disappointment” that, despite interviewing more than 2,000 people and submitting a “comprehensive file of evidence” that no action would be taken.
In her statement Saunders said that the child sex abuse accusations stemmed from Janner’s activities with residents of a Leicestershire children’s home between 1970 and the 1980s. Janner allegedly persuaded the manager of the home, Frank Beck, to provide him with access to children so that he could “perpetrate serious sexual offenses on children”.
Janner, 86, who served as president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews and as vice president of the World Jewish Congress, took a prominent role in representing the Jewish community on a wide range of issues. Besides his leadership of the campaign to secure the release of Soviet Jewry, he is probably best known for his pursuit of former Nazis and the establishment of the Holocaust Educational Trust to ensure the memory of the victims is never forgotten.
A barrister before he entered Parliament, Janner moved to the House of Lords when he retired from the House of Commons in 1997. His attendance and participation in debates tailed off in recent years, as his dementia increased in severity.
Saunders said that mistakes had been made in not putting Janner on trial previously during the three previous investigations into his alleged activities. However, after several medical tests, the severity of his condition means that “his evidence could not be relied upon in court and he could not have any meaningful engagement with the court process and as a result the court would find it impossible to proceed.”
In a statement issued by his family, Janner was described as a “man of great integrity and high repute, with a long and unblemished record of public service.”
“As the Crown Prosecution Service indicated today, this decision does not mean or imply that any of the allegations that have been made are established or that Lord Janner is guilty of any offense,” the statement said.
