Nigeria acquires aircraft detection system

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Aviation, has acquired RPA-200MC mobile 3D primary radars.

The first of the nine primary radars procured arrived in the country Friday night, according to Defense News Nigeria.

Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, received the equipment alongside top officials of the ministry.

The radar will ensure that both friendly and hostile aircraft in Nigerian airspace are promptly detected.

Developed in Argentina, it is derived from the long-range version RPA-2403D mid-range air defense mobile radar.

The system can detect low-speed as well as low-altitude targets. It can be used in national defence, border control and civil air traffic control.

The primary 3D radar supplied by INVAP is the first export of its kind between Argentina and any African country.
