Cleric laments conversion of churches to super markets

The Anglican Bishop of Awka Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr. Alex Ibezim, has raised alarm over the increasing rate of idol worship, lesbianism, homosexuality and other sinful acts inimical to the Christian doctrine especially in European countries.

He made the statement at the occasion of confirmation and admission of 177 Christians into the order of sacrament of Holy Communion held yesterday at St. Michaels and All Angels Anglican Parish, Nawfia in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Also inducted were 36 ladies into the Girls Guild and Mothers Union respectively.

Ibezim who recently returned from an evangelical tour of the USA lamented the increase in the conversion of churches to supermarkets while many believers on their part have abandoned their faith for idol worship and other religious practices which rub against the teachings of Jesus Christ.

He warned that unless Christians wake up to their responsibilities and carry the cross of Christ, Christianity will be extinguished before the second coming of Jesus Christ.

In his words, “Christianity is at the verge of extinction. We are rapidly folding away while evil is on the increase. Homosexuality and lesbianism are taking over everywhere.

“In many European countries, most of the churches have been sold out and converted to supermarkets. You all have been prayerful, holding steadfast to your faith in Jesus Christ. Don’t ever throw away your faith no matter what challenge you may encounter.”

Ibezim further warned believers in Christ to desist from idolatry saying that worshipers have no place in God’s kingdom.

On his part, the Arch Deacon of Nawfia Arch Deaconry, Ven. Benjamin Ofili charged the inductees to hold tenaciously to the rules of their organisations targeted at raising a Godly generation.
