Most government officials in Nigeria are looters – Prelate

The Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria, His eminence, Dr Emeka Kanu Uche has alleged that only few government officials in Nigeria are not looters of the public treasury, describing looting as idiotic.

He made this known while delivering a sermon during the burial of Pa William Ibekwe Agupusi, the father of the Bishop of Methodist Church Umuahia-East Diocese, Rt. Rev. Godfrey Agupusi which took place at Ihube-ikigwe, Imo state.

He blamed the increasing sufferings, hunger and non-payment of salaries to workers in Nigeria on godfathers who frequently go to government houses to collect money from the government in power.

The prelate, who spoke on the theme: “finishing well” called on politicians and all Nigerians to imbibe good character and eschew all forms of evil, so that God will elongate their years as he did to Pa Williams, who lived for 111 years.

He described Pa Williams Agupusi as a man with good principles and cheerful heart, noting that he lived his life very well and ended well.

Referring to those in government, Uche said, “Instead of them to pay workers’ salaries, they prefer to have so many godfathers who go to government house to collect money. So, if you collect that money, you have become a looter. Both of them are now looters of government treasury.

“They go to government house to loot, and so local government workers, pensioners, teachers and principals will not be paid for many months.

“This attitudes is irrelevant, nonsensical, and idiotic. They are doing that because they are not preparing for eternity,” he stated.

Responding, Rt. Rev. Godfrey Agupusi called on politicians to serve the nation and the people with good heart and eschew all forms of bad character that would endanger the progress of the country.

He noted that his late father, Pa Williams, served his community and church with good heart, which according to him, was what elongated his life to the tune of 111 years.

Those in attendance include over twenty bishops from all parts of the country, over forty reverend minister’s, Governor of Ebonyi state represented by his SSG, Dr. Hygnus Nwokwu, former deputy governor and Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University, Prof Chigozie Ogbu.

Others include: representative of the former governor of Abia state, Theodore Orji, some prominent traditional rulers from the South-east and South-south geopolitical zones among others.
