A woman suffered serious burns after her boyfriend threw acid in her face because she was behind his bad health, police in Ghana said.

22-year-old Anita Otema of Abeka-Lapaz, said that several days before the attack, her boyfriend, 28-year-old Kwabena Fosu, told her that his pastor revealed that she is behind his recurring ill health.

The pastor also told Fosu that Otema was earning money as a result of his frequent illnesses.

Fosu, who was outraged by the revelation, entered his girlfriend's home early in the morning and poured acid on her while she slept.

Police said that so far, Fosu has not been arrested as he fled from the town. Otema’s family is struggling to raise money to pay for the cost of reconstructive surgery.

Doctors say that Otema needs about GH15,000 ($3,916)for reconstructive surgery.
