Police operatives from Olosan Division Mushin, Lagos, led by SP Ayodele Arogbo, have arrested a 27-year old man, Faniyi Ajibola, who sneaked in, burgled a Catholic Church, ate the holy bread and wine kept inside the Church tabernacle and escaped.
P.M.EXPRESS reports that the incident happened at the church parish located at Folarin Street in Ilasamaja area of Mushin, Lagos.
Having satisfied himself with the holy bread and two bottles of wine, he collected holy salt and soap he found inside the church and wanted to escape at about 8pm on 24th September, 2019.
However, while he trying to escape, he was caught and he reportedly confessed that he fed himself with the holy bread and wine he found inside the church tabernacle.
It was gathered that the Police wanted to know how he managed to enter the Church and he said he had to break the entrance door.
The Police found Ajibola culpable for conduct likely to breach the public peace by feeding on the holy bread and wine including carting away of other items found with him worth N49,000.
He was later charged before the Ogba Magistrates Court for the alleged offence and he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. A. Koti, asked the Court to give a date for hearing since the defendant pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that he actually committed the offence.
Thus, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs. M.I. Tanimola, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned till 21st October, 2019.
