Some Nigerian Churches And Their Penchant For Noise Pollution.

I had chanced upon a write up by an offended Nigerian female living in Nigeria who was venting on how the Church in her neighbourhood make her sleep uncomfortable on 2 certain days in the week with their vigil backed by loudspeakers.

She had vented on the group about how much of a light sleeper she is and finds it hard to sleep with the noise coming from the said Church and wondered if that was what obtained in saner climes.

My people, enablers and bad behaviour apologists for The Church of God in Nigeria gave very nauseating advises ranging from her going to join in the vigil, shutting her window and informing her that people are able to sleep while clubbing of which I am very guilty of.

I honestly do not believe that you have to have lived abroad to know how to live decently and noise free and felt offended on her behalf and the predicament she found herself in.

It is most unfair to grapple with generator noise as well as noise making in the dead of the night when one should be asleep and the body is resting and hopefully rejuvenating.

That it is a Church does not make it excusable or pardonable either.

There are hundreds of stories of people who took laws into their hands and retaliated to Churches who disturbed their sleep at night by playing loud raunchy songs in the daytime when they were holding their services.

Rather than cause misery to residents, Churches can soundproof their walls or do away with the speakers during vigils held at night. This act alone can win people to Christ and show that its a religion of love and understanding.

The Lagos State Ministry of Environment have dealt with erring Churches who have decided to constitute nuisance and pollute the environment with noise.

This is not me being against The Church but denouncing the lack of concern shown to their neighbours when having very noisy night vigils and not being apologetic enough or at all.
