The EFF had vowed to make the church's pastor, Penuel Mnguni, eat rodents and snakes like he did to his congregation.

This threat put the fear of God in Mnguni as he did not show up for the service.

Mnguni's absence did not stop the EFF from wreaking havoc on the premises.

Members of the party tore down the tent in which Mnunguni conducts his services, forcing the congregation to disperse

The congregation attempted to continue the service despite the disruption, as lay on the ground and said they would not be moved.

An unidentified second-in-command of the pastor took over the service, which had spilled onto the street, and commanded members to eat leaves.

Police were monitoring the situation from a few hundred metres away.
