Kerosene, though not scarce, but has now become an essential commodity as an average Nigerian find it difficult to purchase the product at its high price, ranging from one hundred and fifty naira to one hundred and eighty naira per litre, as against the government official pump price of fifty naira per litre.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Mega Station in Awka kicked against the high price of the product by dispensing it to the public at the government official pump price of fifty per litre.

Njideka Okoye, who monitored the sale of the product at the NNPC mega station in Awka, said due to the cheaper rate of the commodity at the NNPC Mega Station, people from Awka and beyond troop at the station to purchase the product.

One of the buyers, Mrs Chinwe Nwobu, expressed gratitude to NNPC for making people like-her, get the product, at the affordable rate of fifty naira.

She said that the station has been helping the people of the area to get the commodity at a cheaper rate and called on the Federal Government to also make the product available to Independent marketers so that people can also get it cheaper at other filling stations to reduce the rush to the NNPC mega station.

On her part, another beneficiary Mrs Dorothy Okeke, extolled the NNPCV Mega Station for the distribution of the product at fifty naira, per litre saying they have cut off their excess expenses in purchasing the product at other filling stations at the rate of one hundred and thirty naira.

She noted that one can buy three litres of kerosene at fifty naira per litre with one hundred and fifty naira and prayed that NNPC will continue in that direction.
