The big cat was spotted by a number of concerned residents in Al Barsha after it had slipped out of its owner's home.
Major-General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief, Dubai Police, said that the police operations room received calls from several people reporting sightings, Emirates 24/7 reported.
Immediately police patrols along with the Veterinary Services Department members of Dubai Municipality arrived at the site and surrounded the lion.
Al Mansouri said no person was injured and the owner will be prosecuted.
Legal action will be initiated against the owner, he said.
Meanwhile, Hashim Al Awadhi, Head of Veterinary Services Department, Dubai Municipality, said that the lion was transferred to Dubai zoo.
He stressed that it was illegal in the city to keep big cats at home.
Investigations are ongoing.
