Following threats by the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) to drag Nigerian rapper, Falz to court over his “inciting” video titled “This is Nigeria”, Nigerians have taken to social media to share thoughts on the subject matter.

According to the group, the narrative of the video is not only inciting, it also promotes negative stereotype against Fulanis, Chibok Girls and Muslim.

MURIC gave a seven-day ultimatum to Falz to withdraw the video and apologise to Nigerians, or face legal actions.

The Management of Bahd Guy Records, Falz’s Management however stood their ground, stating vehemently that they would not retract the video.

“We have nothing to say. We are not withdrawing the video neither are we commenting on their claims. If they have any grievance they can head to court and we will meet them,” Femi Soro, a member of the team said when reach out by PREMIUM TIMES.

A social media commentator JJ. Omojuwa waded into the matter.

“Falz treated: Poverty. Unemployment. Insecurity. Corruption (including in the church). Vanity. Collective national foolishness. Inadequate infrastructure. The economy etc in that video. But no, these are not important. Na wetin the dancers wear matter. Because #ThisIsNigeria,” he said.

Tryo (@doubleEph) said “Funniest part is threatening Falz with a lawsuit. Someone that does not need to pay for a lawyer.”

Zeekah Francis (@ZeekahFrancis) drew the attention of her followers to Falz’s father’s (Femi Falana) pedigree, while challenging the rapper not to apologise.

“You wanna drag a man, whose father defended a major ‘national wahala’ like Fela in court till he died..I will love to see you try..Falz, if you are apologise, you are not the son of your father…#ThisIsNigeria everybody feels entitled…,” she said.

”@falzthebahdguy is a non-practicing lawyer and the son of one of Nigeria’s most revered Human Rights lawyer, FEMI Falana, so I guess he’s covered,” a Nigerian music blogger, DJ Ruffee (@djruffee) said.

The video which was quickly endorsed by American rapper and enterpreneur, Sean Combs (aka P. Diddy) was released in May and is currently trending on YouTube at the number two spot.

“This is Nigeria” mirrored Childish Gambino’s “This is America” video and storyline, only this time, Falz touched on issues peculiar to Nigeria.
