UCH successfully performs complex brain surgery

 

The University College Hospital, UCH Ibadan has succesfully performed the most complex brain surgeries ever handled by the hospital since inception. The surgery was performed on a 31 year old man diagnosed for a special kind aneurysm. A three-hour intense surgery saw the man who had already lost the use of one eye, talking 30 minutes after the completion of the surgery.

The Chief Medical Director, UCH Prof. Temitope Alonge, said the cost of performing a complex brain surgery is put at an estimate of N1million, which is beyond the reach of a common Nigeria.Therefore, unless some form of subsidy is urgently provided by the concerned, Nigerians will continue to die needlessly from severe headache. Neurosurgeons therefore called on govenment at all levels to subsidise the cost of healthcare in the country to enable larger percentage have access.
