Wife of the Ondo State governor, Mrs Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu has advised youths not to go into relationship because of material things.

She urged youths who are planning to get married to let true love be the only reason for such relationship.

Mrs Akeredolu gave the advice while speaking with news men in Akure, the Ondo state capital.

The first lady who went memory lane on how her relationship with governor Akeredolu began over three decades ago said she had the options to marry rich people ,but went for Akeredolu because of true love.

Mrs Akeredolu said “38 years of true love. I am sure you have read our story that we were nothing.

We were chasing Love, or i should say i was chasing Love because i also had rich people coming after me( when i was single )

From that my side ,most times, people would see this is the daughter…am sure you know i am a daughter of a headmaster.

People run after me being a daughter of a headmaster and i was in the university.

There were suitors everywhere like America, Germany and those around.

But i just followed this Yoruba boy ( Rotimi Akeredolu ) that had nothing with his‘tontinrin’ trousers (skinny trousers).

So it is true love, togetherness and understanding and that’s what made our marriage work and still strong.

That understanding is very important. Understanding your spouses is important .If you understand her and she understands you,you have no problem.

Most of the time,who gives space is the man. The man is expected to give space to that woman for her to chase her dreams and be whatever she wants to be in life.

When there are obstacles ,some people would take it, some would not take it and that is why you see marriages collapsing.

Many of our children would not tolerate what we tolerated in our times as couples and that’s the problem now and we ,the mothers, are the ones that will caution our sons.

This is digital century and we all should behave digitally.” Mrs Akeredolu said.
