A thief was arrested on a charge of theft after allegedly persuading a woman to have sex with him and hand him over a large amount of cash, police in Nigeria said.

Lagos State police said that they have arrested 37-year-old Elijah Kingsley, after being accused of persuading Beauty Emmanuel to hand him over N700,000 ($3,516).

Kingsley was charged with conspiracy, obtaining by false pretenses and theft. He was booked into jail, and his bail was set at N200,000 ($1,004).

According to the police investigation, Kingsley and another man met Emmanuel, and he told her that he has a way to clean dirty money, but he needs her money to wash it.

He promised her part of the profits. She handed over N700,000.

After several weeks, Emmanuel asked for her money and profits, but Kingsley rejected her requests. Kingsley then sent a pastor to persuade Emmanuel to have sex with him.

The pastor, who was not identified, told Emmanuel that evil spirits took over her body, and the only way to get rid of them is to have sex with Kingsley.

Emmanuel agreed and had sex with Kingsley numerous times.

After several months, Emmanuel told her friend about the pastor and Kingsley, and she filed a complaint with the police.
