My Parents Are to Blame For My Criminal Life, Suspeced Armed Robber Says

A suspected armed robber, who has been apprehended by the police has blamed his parents for his life of crime.

The suspect, Lekan Jimoh, says his parents failed to assist him in getting equipment for his vocation thereby forcing him to become an armed robber.

The Punch reports that Jimoh was apprehended by security operatives from the Orile police division on Wednesday, October 21, following a tip off that he and other members of his gang were about to carry out a robbery.

Taiye Oyeleso, another suspect who provided bullets for the robbery was arrested but two other members of the gang escaped.
The 24-year-old Jimoh who was paraded alongside other suspected criminals by the Lagos state police command confessed that he had participated in five previous robberies and had made at least N30, 000 from each.

“I started learning carpentry after finishing from secondary school. But when I was through, there was no money to buy the tools. My parents did not assist me in any way. Their irresponsibility forced me to go into robbery. My boss also sent me away from work, warning me to keep off until I got the money to commence work.

“It was one of my friends who introduced me to the gang. We were going for operations in the Ajah area. I went for only five operations. I was given about N30,000 after each operation along with victims’ phones.

“I promise not to rob again if I regain my freedom. I am married with a child, and he is just a year and two months old. The police have not been feeding me; I am extremely hungry inside the cell. I have learnt my lesson.”

Oyeleso who provided Jimoh with the bullets claimed that he did not know the latter wanted to use the bullets to rob.

“I knew Jimoh when we were both doing security work in the Igando area. I do not sell guns; I do not rob. I was arrested in the Igando area. He had come to me and said he needed five bullets for a security job.

“Since we were together, I did not doubt him. I did not know he was going to rob with the bullets.

So, I gave him some of my boss’s bullets. That was my offence.”

Fatai Owoseni, the state commissioner of police said the command was bent on ridding the state of criminals and that the suspects would be duly charged after the completion of investigations.
