Troops of the 7 Division Nigerian Army on Tuesday intercepted two suicide bombers trying to infiltrate Maiduguri through Muna Dalti Ward, about 100 meters ahead of a military check-point.
The suicide bombers, who blew themselves on the process, could not achieve their aims.
Speaking to newsmen Tuesday evening, the Media Coordinator, Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Mustapha Anka said the whole area had been cordoned off.
He equally disclosed that troops of the 112 Battallion and Army Headquarters Special Group conducted fighting patrol along Gardawaji, Adashe, Mijigine, Manawci, Sigafariya Bula Goma, MAFA, Dikwa and Kala Balge areas.
According to him, during the operation, troops had contact with Boko Haram terrorists along Boboshe and Mowa, where 56 Boko Haram terrorists were killed.
“Items recovered from them include 8 AK-47 Ruffles, 3 RPG, 7 tubes, 1 GPMG, 1 – 60mm mortar, 1 grenade, 3 motor bombs, 18 motor cycles and vehicles. We also rescued 520 hostages and brought them to the IDP camp in Dikwa”, Col. Anka said.
