FORMER president Dr Goodluck Jonathan's aide-de-camp (ADC) Colonel Ojogbane Adegbe has been arrested by security men in Abuja in a development believed to be connected to the ongoing $2.1bn Dasukigate scandal.
Since assuming office in May this year, President Muhammadu Buhari has made the fight against corruption and recovering looted funds the major priority of his government. Over recent months, attention has centred on the $2.1bn arms scandal in which former national security adviser Col Sambo Dasuki disbursed cash meant to buy weapons among political associates.
Several Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officials, civil servants, military officers and defence officials have been arrested in connection with the case. It is believed that Col Adegbe is also being questioned in connection with what he knows about the dispersal of the funds.
Forever present at Dr Jonathan's side when he was president, Col Adegbe is believed to be one of his closest confidants. His arrest will raise eyebrows in certain quarters and lead to fears that Dr Jonathan himself may be questioned by anti-graft officials at some stage.
