Jonathan’s foster dad set free by kidnappers

Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s uncle/foster dad, who was abducted in February, has been freed.

Inegite Jonathan, 72, was abducted by armed gunmen on February 17.

Details of his release were not immediately clear.

Asinim Butswat, spokesman for the Bayelsa Police Command, confirmed the development on Tuesday, but said he could not provide details immediately.

“The victim has been released and reunited with his family but I am yet to get the detail,” Mr. Butswat said.

Mr. Jonathan has already undergone medical examination at the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa.

Mr. Jonathan was kidnapped at his residence in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa alongside a 35-year-old relative, Samuel Oki, who was later killed by the abductors.

Mr. Oki’s body was found floating on a river two days after the abduction.
