A woman was arrested on a charge of causing grievous bodily harm after allegedly pouring boiling water on her husband’s private parts because he cheated on her, police in Malawi said.

Kanengo police said that they have arrested 33-year-old Juliet Chiwaya, after being accused of causing severe burns to the private parts of 36-year-old Maxwell Chiwaya.

 Juliet Chiwaya was charged with one count of act intended to cause grievous harm. If convicted, Juliet Chiwaya faces up to seven years in prison.

According to the police investigation, the couple had been married for the past 14 years.

On Sunday, a businessman came to the couple's home to collect payment for items the husband bought several weeks ago.

The husband was not home at the time. The businessman told Juliet that Maxwell was cheating on her with another woman.

This revelation angered Juliet, and she immediately boiled a pot of water. When her husband came home, she poured the water on his private parts.

Maxwell was severely burned, and had been taken to a hospital, where he is said to be in critical condition.
