expatriate worker orders dog to attack Nigerian in Enugu

Angry reaction has trailed the action of an expatriate, working with the Reynold Construction Company (RCC) in Enugu State, Mr. Ali Taraba, who allegedly ordered his dog to attack a Nigerian worker with the construction company.

This is also as the Egyptian has reportedly absconded from his duty post to evade arrest by the police.

DAILY POST gathered that the expatriate had ordered his dog to attack the Nigerian worker, Mr. Ayodele Emmanuel, following a minor misunderstanding between the two of them.

The RCC is currently handling some key road projects for the Enugu State Government.

A source, who spoke to our correspondent, expressed anger that over three weeks after the incident, the police were yet to arrest the suspect.

It was gathered that on May 20, 2016, the expatriate popularly called Mr. Ali who is the Workshop Manager in RCC Permanent Site, 9th Mile Corner Ngwo Enugu, had a minor disagreement with Mr. Ayodele at the workshop premises.

Mr. Ali was said to be furious and threatened to deal with Mr. Ayodele for daring his authority.

He was alleged to have rushed Mr. Ayodele, held his hands to his back and instructed the dog to attack him.

The dog viciously dashed towards Mr. Ayodele and gave him a deadly bite on the lower side of his left leg.

Mr. Ayodele was said to have slumped on the ground, screaming in pains and was immediately rushed to a private hospital which refused to admit him and he was treated as an
out patient and discharged.

Mr Ayodele was later taken to‎ the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital Parklane Enugu,
where he has been undergoing treatment for dog bite, rabbies and wound sustained from the bite.

Following theincident, an Enugu based human rights lawyer, Mr. Vincent Egechukwu Obetta senta petition to the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State, urging him to use his office to investigate the matter thoroughly.

The petition to the Police was dated May 23, 2016 and titled, “A Case of Criminal Assault, Bestiality and Act of Inhuman and Degrading Treatment by Mr. Ali of Reynold Construction Company, RCC.

Obetta equally filed a civil suit on behalf of Mr. Ayodele at the Federal High Court Enugu, seeking for among others an order for general damages against the respondent (Mr. Ali) in the sum of N300 million in favour of the applicant.

It was gathered that when the bailiff from the Federal High Court went to serve Mr.Ali the court processes at the RCC Workshop at 9th Mile, he attempted to evade service but the bailiff dropped the processes on him and quickly left the workshop premises.

But the police said it’s efforts to investigate the criminal aspect of the matter have continuously met brick walls as the Egyptian has not only refused to honour police invitation but had severally evaded arrest.

The Spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, SP Ebere Amaraizu said efforts were on to track down the suspect.

However,‎ Obetta told DAILY POST that he could not understand why it was difficult for the police to arrest Mr. Ali whereas a simple court bailiff succeeded in serving him with the court processes.

Meanwhile, following information that the RCC management was making plans to send Mr. Ali back to his home country, Obetta has petitioned the Comptroller of Immigration, Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) Enugu State Command, soliciting his investigation into the matter and to assist in tracking him down to make sure that he answers to the allegations against him.

He has equally sent a petition to the RCC, threatening to take legal action against the company for conspiracy and compounding criminal act, should Mr. Ali evade or refuse to submit to the authority of Nigerian government.

In the petition dated June 10, 2016 and addressed to the Project Manager RCC Ninth Mile Corner Enugu, Mr. Obetta advised him to “kindly submit or at best withdraw the company’s support for an illegal act and advise Mr. Ali to submit himself to constituted authority.”
