I’ve intimidated people, made millions – Fake Army officer confesses

A self-acclaimed Army officer, George Edem, was on Tuesday arrested by officials of the Lagos State Task Force on Environment and Special Offences Unit.

Edem, a suspected fraudster, claimed he had operated in several police stations and Army barracks in the state, adding that he had deceived many Divisional Police Officers, DPOs in the state on different cases where he had collected millions of naira.

He said for over eight years, he had majorly disguised as an Army officer to intimidate people and to secure release of impounded vehicles and motorcycles.

He said he also collected money from innocent people who had cases with the police and Nigerian Customs Service, NCS.

Luck, however, ran out on him when he stormed the task force headquarters, Alausa area of the state for the release of a motorcycle with chassis no MD2A18AZ3FMW which was impounded at Oshodi.

He had harassed both police and paramilitary officers, demanding to see the chairman of the task force immediately.

When he was ushered in to see the task force Chairman, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi, he couldn’t respond to some of the questions Egbeyemi asked him.

Egbeyemi raised the alarm after he discovered that Edem who claimed to be residing at Flat 11, Block 2, Intelligent Quarters, Nigerian Army Cantonment, Ojo, was a fraudster.

Meanwhile, the suspect, following the allegation, confessed.

Edem, who appealed for leniency from members of the public and the police, said he was just an engineer and not an Army officer.
