No Religion Is Against Modesty By Fatima Oyelami

[As] a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, [so is] a fair woman which is without discretion. Reference to the Holy Bible, Proverbs 11:22

Modesty is a respectable manner of adorning one’s body and carrying oneself, born out of a freedom from a worldly definition of beauty and worth, and motivated by a hatred of sin and a desire to draw attention to God.

There is absolutely no religion that preaches against modesty or encourages nudity.

“And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (avoiding its concentration on a person’s body, or a certain part of it) and to be mindful of their chastity, and not to display the charms of their bodies (in public) beyond what may (decently) be apparent thereof; hence, let them draw their head-coverings over their bosoms.  And let them not display (more of) their charms to any but their husbands, or their father or their husbands’ fathers, or their sons, or their husbands’ sons, or their brothers, or their brothers’ sons, or their sisters’ sons, or their womenfolk, or those whom they rightfully possess, or such male attendants as are beyond all sexual desire, or children that are as yet unaware of (the physical attractions of)  women’s nakedness; and let them not swing their legs (or other actions in their walking) that may aim to draw attention to their hidden charms” Reference to the Holy Qur’an (24:31)

That the Muslim females are allowed to put on their hijabs to schools is a thing we should approve and not condemn or start a war on.
Hijab is not a form of Religion Extremism and it is a guide for our daily mode of dressing as it can be worn even to social gatherings (parties).

In our higher institutions all over the Country, Females are allowed to wear whatever they choose to without discrimination and with that Muslim Females put on hijabs to lectures and tutorials,if we can cope with them at the higher level why can’t we encourage the young ones too?

Those instigating war and criminality against the Court Ruling should ask themselves to what end? What do I stand to gain or loose if these students wear their Hijab? The Hijab is the identity of the Muslim Female students so why do we think we should deprive them of their identity? Does the Hijab disturb the activities of the school? Does the Hijab scare other non Hijab wearing students?

The Public and all concerned stakeholders should not overflog this issue and use that to promote indiscipline in our schools.Even the two Holy Books are in full support of Women protecting their bodies and being modest in dressing.

She said to the servant, “Who is that man walking in the field to meet us?” And the servant said, “He is my master.” Then she took her veil and covered herself. Genesis 24:65 Another Reference to the Holy Bible.

Let us get it right that Hijab is not forced on any student and that Even the Muslims are permitted to, not forced to as there is no compulsion in Religion.

Catholics also wear their veil and I can vividly remember how a classmate who is a Reverend Sister used to dress to lectures without any of us acting funny in response to her Identity.

We don’t necessarily have to politicize every issue as we are all bound to our Political sentiments and lets try not make this about Ogbeni Aregbesola as we always do.

Osun is a peaceful state and it would be of benefit to residents to maintain the status quo and promote a healthy Cohabitation.
