A mother of one has shared footage from a nanny camera that captured her house help abusing her one year-old toddler in their house in Ngong.
Mary Wanjiru said she shared the footage on YouTube to warn other city mums on the need to be careful with the choice of their house helps.
Ms Wanjiru decided to install the surveillance camera in her house after she noticed her son was always crying days after she employed the house help.
“My son never used to cry, but soon after we employed her everything changed. So my husband and I decided to install the cameras in the house,” she said in an interview with QTV.
The house help is from Nyeri and had been recommended to her by an aunt
The footage shows the toddler falling from the arm of a sofa and landing on the concrete with the head. The house help, who was in the kitchen, responds by hitting the child instead of soothing him.
The brutality does not stop there.
The house help is seen moments later eating the toddler’s food while constantly scolding him as she watches television.
Ms Wanjiru told QTV that she has since sacked the house help and warned other mothers to be careful whenever they hire house helps.
“We paid her all the money we owed her and did not take any action against her. We didn’t even report to the police…but now I want to save another kid,” Ms Wanjiru told QTV.
