The DSS has accused a 44-year-old man, Eseosasere Gift Osifo, of creating a Facebook account using details of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to defraud unsuspected victims.
The Nation reports that the suspect was arraigned before an Osogbo magistrates’ court on September 22, for creating a Facebook account using details of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to defraud unsuspected victims.
According to the prosecutor, Mr Onoche Ekwom, principal legal officer, of the DSS, said the accused committed the offence between January and August before he was arrested and brought to the court. Ekwon told the court that the accused used the account to extort money from unsuspected victims on several occasions before he fell prey to the last victim which led to his arrest. The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 484 and 422 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2002. On his part, the accused pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of impersonation and fraud. Counsel to the accused, Mr Peter Ofoyeju, prayed the magistrate to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms. The magistrate, Sodamade Fatimoh, granted the accused person bail in the sum N500,000 and two sureties in the like sum.
Fatimoh said the sureties must reside within the court jurisdiction. She added that they must have evidence of tax payment and two passport sized photographs attached with an affidavit of means. She also demanded that one of the sureties must be a civil servant on grade level 12 and the other a closed relations to the accused. The case was adjourned the case to November 21 for hearing. Meanwhile, a couple accused and charged to court for impersonating former governor of Lagos state and national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu have been remanded in prison custody. On July 21, an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos remanded Abioye Junaid (41) and his wife, Fausat Junaid (39) for intent to commit fraud. The couple were also accused of impersonating the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Chief Folashade Tinubu-Ojo and defrauding two persons of N85 million.
