An Ibadan-based pastor identified as Mr Adejare Adebayo, has been arrested for reportedly causing the death of his cancer-stricken wife.

According to reports, the 61-year-old pastor and his 43-year-old wife, Mrs Risikayat Adegbule, had agreed that he would perform a 'surgery' on her breasts, to remove the cancer that had afflicted them.

Adebayo had proceeded to remove her right breast using a kitchen knife, and she suffered from severe pain for about three days, before dying at their home in Onikankan village, Ibadan, on December 24, 2016.

Following his arrest and detaining at the Agodi prison in Ibadan, he admitted that he cut the breast because they didn't want the cancer which had earlier affected the left breast, to spread onto the right one.

Appearing before the Chief Magistrate F. Richard of court 2 on Monday, Adebayo pleaded not guilty. His case was adjourned to February 14, and he has been remanded in prison till then.
