Girl abducted by Boko Haram in 2015 escapes Sambisa with her baby

– A young girl abducted in 2014 by Boko Haram terrorists has escaped her abductors

– She escaped the Sambisa forest with a toddler she gave birth to during her stay in the terrorists camp

– The girl reportedly escaped from Sambisa into Cameroon when the Nigerian army attacked the forest in 2016

Mumina Hamidu, a girl abducted by Boko Haram terrorists from her hometown, Mubi, Adamawa state. when she was 16, has escaped from her captors in Sambisa forest.

NAIJ.com learnt that Mumina was forcibly married off to one of her captors and she had a baby with him in 2016.

She escaped into Cameroon with her baby in 2016 after the Nigerian army stormed Sambisa forest and leveled it to the ground.

She was intercepted while wondering in the bush by operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Adamawa state, Premium Times.

Mumina said: “I was abducted from Nguwan Barkwano in Mubi town and I and some other girls were taken to Sambisa, where I was forced to marry one of the sect commanders, known as Ba’ana Kura.

“I was forced to accept the sum of N30, 000 from Ba’ana Kura as dowry.”

She said her supposed husband, Ba’ana Kura, was still alive at the time she managed to escape into Cameroon.

Speaking to journalists in Yola on Friday, the state Commandant of the NSCDC, Aliyu Ndanusa, said his men saw her trekking in the with an eight-month baby.

The Commandant said: “When she was questioned, the young lady narrated that she was escaping from Sambisa forest where her Boko Haram abductor kept since 2014.

“She succeeded in escaping from Sambisa to Cameroon, where she was picked up by men of the corps while returning to Mubi.

“The lady and her baby would be handed over to the relevant authorities for proper rehabilitation.”

Mr. Ndanusa said such rescue of abducted girls was not new to his command. According to him his operatives had, been between January to date, helped in rescuing two such women from Sambisa.

He said his men were also able to arrest an escapee Boko Haram suspect fleeing from Sambisa forest.

Meanwhile, the faction of the Boko Haram belonging to Abu Shekau has reportedly claimed responsibility for the recent sneak attack on Maiduguri, Borno state.

They displaying uniforms, shoes, identity cards, arms and ammunition the group claimed their fighters seized from the military during the attack.

They also said they were ready to continue to fight on as they were not prepared for any dialogue with the federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari.

To show their determination, Shekau mentioned Somalia, Afghanistan, and Syria where Islamist groups have waged wars for a long time.
