NIGERIAN murder suspect Abdul Adewale Kekere-Ekun has arrived back in the UK after being extradited from Nigeria in what is the first case of the two countries cooperating to hand over a Nigerian for trail in Britain.
Mr Kekere-Ekun is wanted by the UK government for the murder of one Marcus Hall, an 18-year-old who was beaten and stabbed to death 14years ago following a brawl outside a night club in Luton, England. He had fled to Nigeria hoping to avoid arrest but was tracked down and the British authorities submitted a formal extradition request.
This request was acted upon by the Nigerian government and Mr Kekere-Ekun was arrested. After a legal process, the request was accepted by the Nigerian courts and Mr Kekere-Ekun was ruled to have a case to answer.
He left Abuja yesterday morning and arrived in London, where he is to be prosecuted for murder related offences. Justice A R Mohammed gave the nod for Kekere- Ekun's extradition after his lawyers dropped their objection to the extradition request brought by the office of the attorney-general of the federation.
Mr Kekere-Ekun fled the UK in a bid to escape prosecution for the offence but the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested him in Nigeria a few weeks ago for an identity theft related offence. Following his discovery and arrest, an extradition request was filed by the UK government.
