“A Lot Of Nigerian Girls Have Lost Their Lives Here, Some Have Run Mad .............

And Some Are Not Functioning Properly Again” – Nigerian Woman Working As Maid In Oman Cries For Help

An unnamed Nigerian woman in Oman, is pleading with the Nigerian government to rescue them from their sufferings.

Detailing the suffering of Nigerian women in a voice note,  she said that they worked for 20 hours everyday for the whole month with no day off for rest.

Oman is an arabic country that operates a monarchical system of government.

Below is her voice-note, which was transcribed from the Yoruba language,

Good morning Nigerians and if you’re at noon. I greet everybody. Please, this voice-note is coming from Oman and its about Nigerian girls in Oman. In the name of God, please help us forward this voice-note till it reaches the government authorities.

Please, we really need your help. Nigerian girls are suffering in Oman.they are using us like slaves, they are using us in a wicked way in Oman. Please help us. They are treating us the way they want. In this country, we wake up at 4am and finish at 12 and we work like this for 30 days without leave for a day.

Even if you complain of being sick, it musn’t be more than that day. You will still have to work that day. Only a God-fearing boss will ask you to rest for one day.

Nigerians are suffering in Oman. I am also in Oman and since I got here, I’ve not had leave for one day. There is no rest for us. If we tell them we are not working anymore, they’ll take us to the office, beat us there and take us to prison

A lot of Nigerian girls have lost their lives here, some have run mad and some are not functioning properly again.

Our agents are also not merciful. They give our employees the power to beat us if we say we are not working again. And they will beat some to the extent that they will go blind.

Truthfully, we were told that we were going for a vigil (i.e to work hard) and we agreed….when I was coming, I was lied to that I was going to Dubai and there would be leave at the end of the month.

It was not until my visa was granted that I knew I was coming to Oman. When I knew I was coming to Oman, I thought there would be leave and that was why I agreed. I’ve been here for a year now and I’ve never had one day off.

When we are asked to rest, its just for one hour. Please, this suffering is too much, help us.
