WHERE IS NNAMDI KANU? | THERE’S NO ONE RESTORING BIAFRALAND RIGHT NOW

“In view of the concerted effort by the oppressive Nigerian state to shatter the peace and tranquility of the South-East and the rest of Biafraland through military intimidation, it has become necessary for me to clarify why, regrettably, I may not be able to attend Friday’s meeting with the South-East governors as earlier agreed, for three main reasons.”

That’s the last we heard from the self-professed savior of the Biafraland in a letter purportedly signed by him excusing himself from a meeting he should have attended along with Southeast governors last Friday.

On Sunday of that week, the Nigerian State made an enemy of citizens living in Abia, especially those in around the Afaraubekwu Ibeku community, where Nnamdi Kanu has stayed with his parents since he made bail in April. The Nigerian Army, under the veneer of curbing armed robbery, kidnapping, and sundry crimes in the Southeast, invaded the State (that State only and they are still there) causing what’s now being called a bloody scene at Kanu’s residence.

The residence, from which his father, the traditional head of the community has apparently now been deserted. His father, Israel, and mother are also nowhere to be found.

Naij.com published a video of the residence in the aftermath of the raid on Sunday. It showed an unoccupied throne and an empty house that appeared to have been ransacked before the video was made. The Cable has reported that although Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, “Fine Boy” has been found, he has refused to comment on his family’s whereabouts.

Through the years, Nnamdi Kanu, who was born after the bloody civil war, has insisted that his role in life is the restoration of Biafra. In fact, he’d have us believe that he was born for it and Biafra needs him to be. And although, Kanu has managed to get quite the following in spite of his many incredulous ramblings that betray the lack of sincerity of his actions, his disappearance at this time calls for two ugly alternatives to be considered.

First, did Nnamdi Kanu bail on “his people” at the first whiff of some serious military confrontation despite having launched his fierce Biafra Secret Service only a few weeks ago?

What this will do is to prove that all of the people that have called Kanu’s intentions to question do have a point. At least as regards the fact that the leaders of almost every secessionist group that has ever come out of Nigeria has always managed to leave their followers high and dry when push comes to shove.

And except Kanu were to show up in some dark video –  shot with utmost secrecy and apparent urgency in a basement somewhere – claiming (as many are now speculating) that the Federal Government forced him out of his home, then he may have just made things harder for IPOB and all its members who have now been made terrorists for demanding self-determination.

The alternative – which is even way more concerning – would be that it’s really true that the Nigerian Army did something to Nnamdi Kanu while Operation Python Dance was down there in Abia two Sundays ago.

And that, to be honest, is what we are really asking. We hope the FG has nothing to do with Nnamdi Kanu’s disappearance.

Because then, what kind of a nation will that make us?
