This is evident in the large number of Nigerians that still lack access to decent homes in many parts of the country.

As such, it has been predicted that the nation’s incoming Minister of Housing will be resuming office with enormous challenges to address, particularly in bridging the housing deficit.

The challenge has become even more enormous following a United Nations report which estimates that Nigeria’s population would hit 289 million by the year 2050.

Besides the UN report, the U.S. Census Bureau also estimates that within the same period, Nigeria’s population would hit 264 million, thus making Nigeria, the 8th most populous country in the world.

To this end, experts have opined that with the growing population trend, one key area the incoming housing minister would need to pay close attention to is finding a lasting solution to the country’s chronic housing deficit.
