How A Wealthy Nigerian Medical Doctor Gbemudu From America Died Of COVID-19

A young and wealthy Nigerian Ikem Gbemudu in his 40s resident in Memphis in the United States of America,  left the US on 15 December 2020  for Nigeria for the burial of his uncle but died of COVID-19 pandemic on 31 December 2020.

The pathetic story as narrated by one of his closest friends Steve reads:

“Just got the sad news, a friend of mine, Ikem Gbemudu, graduate of University of Lagos, Internist in Memphis, passed on, Dec 31st in Nigeria of Covid! He tested negative before the trip.

“Highly successful physician in every sense of the word: Expansive practice, multi million dollar mansions, Bentley convertibles and the like. Left the States Dec 15 to attend the burial of his uncle that took place on the 20 December 2020 became sick few days later with cough and symptoms suggestive of Covid.( confirmed). He was  rushed to First Cardiology hospital in Lagos, turned down because of lack of beds. Was taken to IDH in Lagos, no ventilators, and passed on Dec 31st.

 

“This guy loved and lived life. Had all the trappings of wealth beyond the expectations of physicians. Just gone! Not sure what to make of this: Enjoy your wealth when you can
Leave a lasting legacy or both!
Just reaffirms what we already know: tomorrow is not guaranteed. We rest in God’s hands.
Let 2021 be a year of renewal and new lease of life for all “
