Onitsha bizman docked over dud cheqUE

 

An Onitsha business-man, Zeribe Ezeanu, has been arraigned before a magistrate’s court for allegedly issuing a dud cheque of N500,000 to a former legislator in Anambra State House of Assembly.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Obasi Mathias, while arraigning the 53-year-old businessman, told the court that the suspect, on March 2, issued the dud cheque to one Ezeobi Okpala, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 1 (1)b of the Dud Cheque Act of the federation.

Earlier, counsel to the defendant, Mr. Sunny Abuchi, prayed the court to give them time to respond to the allegations and charge against his client and promised to always produce him in court.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. O. N. Ike, adjourned the case to May 11 for further hearing and other legal actions.
