A prominent career beggar, Simbiat Mopelola who acts as agent for ritualists and destiny collectors has been arrested by the Nigerian Police and is cooling off in one of the police custodies in the Southwest.
She has confessed her atrocities in a mind blowing interview.
Mopelola who confessed that she has built four houses, bought four cars over 10 years of street begging with 12 workers, has two children living outside Nigeria.
According to reports, one of her angry tenants spotted her begging for alms by the road side near a busy market and was shocked at the sight.
He called her name three times but the landlady pretended not to hear. She winked to him to overlook and move away.
This apparently 'stubborn' tenant now openly challenged her. Surprisingly, Mopelola turned the table against the tenant, calling him a thief.
The tenant was almost lynched by angry mob who had now waded in on the matter.
The tenant was however able to assert his claim, exposing the landlady who had now been found out.
The Ibadan-based beggar had been exposed. She confessed that she had about 12 fake beggars (her workers!) using many dubious means to beg for money on the streets, bus stops, market places in Lagos, Ibadan and Osogbo.
Some of the fake beggars can pretend as stranded students or passengers, looking for transport fare, or using photographs of sick people in hospitals to solicit for medical treatment funds.
She shockingly confessed that all the money collected from innocent Nigerians were strictly for ritual purposes.
She also claimed that many big men come to her to buy money she makes from begging, saying they in turn use same for ritual purposes.
It is rather unfortunate that those who might have given these beggars money in good faith would have done so at the detriment of their destinies, as their money is used for ritual purposes.
Welcome to Nigeria where giving alms to beggars is a risky venture all thanks to people like Simbiat Mopelola.
