The wave of trekking in honour of politicians has reached Enugu State as a 200-level student of the Open University of Nigeria, Mr. Joseph Iyioke arrived Nsukka on Saturday from Aba in Abia State.
Although news of his journey was not in the media, Iyioke claimed that he departed Aba on Monday May 4, by 4.30 am and that he arrived Nsukka five days later.
“I did it to honour the governor-elect of Enugu State, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; we have been waiting for long for a governor of Nsukka extraction.
“I started my journey on Monday by 4.30 am, it was full of joy; I was not told by anybody to embark on this journey”, he said.
Iyioke, who stated that Nsukka people had suffered marginalisation for a long time, noted that “there is no good road and electricity in Nsukka.
“This small signpost on my hand were many when I started this journey; I dropped many of them along the roads I passed”.
Meanwhile, Mr. Paschal Ugwu, Director-General, Youth to Youth Campaign in Enugu State for the governor-elect, who was present to receive Iyioke in Nsukka town, described his action as a landmark achievement as well as his own best way to celebrate the governor-elect.
“It is not an easy task; it shows the governor-elect as a man of the people.
“At the appropriate time, he will be taken to the governor-elect for special hand shake; he has been informed of what Iyoke did to honour him”, he said.
