A verbal confrontation had ensued between the duo a joint in Ikeja that fateful night and the policeman fired a shot at Joy in the face at a bus stop as they left the joint.
On noticing the magnitude of his deed, Eze fled the scene, abandoning dying Joy to her fate. Fortunately, she survived at the hospital where she was rushed to.

Joy, who is now disfigured, said the bullet from Eze's rifle would have hit her on the neck if not that she heard the sound of the gun being cocked and shifted her head.
In an interview with BBC Igbo, Joy said she has spent over N10 million for surgeries, and thanked Nigerians who have been donating for her medical bills.

She said Eze's family had pleaded with her to forgive him and not allow his dismissal from police and prosecution.
