Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, told press Buruji Kashamu’s fear of extradition to the US exists only in his imagination.
Buruji Kashamu’s recent claims that there’s a plot to abduct him to the US has no grounds, told press Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke.
Controversial Ogun-East senator-elect told recently that he’s got information that there’s a plot to abduct him and extradite forcibly to the US where he is to face charges of drug trafficking. Buruji Kashamu has sued the chairman of the National Drug Laws Enforcement Agency and 11 others over an alleged plot to extradite him to the US. According to Buruji Kashamu’s lawyer, Ajibola Oluyede, his friend allegedly witnessed former President Olusegun Obasanjo putting pressure on Adoke to extradite Buruji Kashamu to the US without formal procedure, transporting him to the US in a private jet.
At the same time Adoke told that all the plans of alleged extradition in the private jet exist only in Buruji Kashamu’s fevered imagination. Minister of Justice assured that there weren’t any extradition requests concerning Ogun-East senator-elect.
Adoke also declared that in case of such request to be received the government would act according to formal legal procedure, sending this request to the court which will decide on whether Buruji Kashamu shoul or shouldn’t face American justice.
“Kashamu is only being pre-emptive by his claims. His claims are based on imagination. As of now, there is no extradition request on his case before the Federal Government. Even when such request is received, it is not the Federal Government that will take a decision on it. Such request is usually forwarded to the court for a decision to be taken”, told press Adoke.
Mr. Kashamu is indicted in the US on drug trafficking charges. He is accused of masterminding heroin smuggling and running a drug cartel.
