Death sentence for Female Nigerian Student for Drug Trafficking in Malaysia

 

A  female Nigerian student, Mary George Unazi who was arrested in 2011 in Malaysia has been sentenced to death by the Malaysian High Court on Thursday after she was found guilty of trafficking 765.9gm of metamphetamine at the KL International Airport (KLIA) .

 The judgement was delivered by Judge Datuk Ghazali Cha  after finding that the prosecution had managed to prove its case  beyond a reasonable doubt.

In his judgement, Ghazali said  the  student had failed to prove that the bag containing the drug was not hers.

Unazi was found to have committed the offence at the baggage claim area at the international arrival hall of KLIA on May 10, 2011.

She was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 of Malaysia which carries a mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
