Police dismisses BBC report on Anambra restaurant allegedly serving human flesh as meat

The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Police has dismissed a report credited to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) that a restaurant in the state has been shut down for allegedly serving human flesh as meat. The report published yesterday by eater.com and now trending online said: “According to the BBC, suspicious residents told police of rumors that the restaurant was cooking human meat for customers. Police then raided the restaurant, where they discovered fresh human heads that were still bleeding. The blood was in the process of being drained into a plastic bag.

“In addition to the illegal meat, authorities discovered automatic weapons, grenades, and cell phones. Ten people were arrested in conjunction with the crimes.”

The website later updated the story, story: “Though the BBC reported this story locally on Wednesday, 5/13, upon further review, another source suggests the story may be two years old or from a disputed source.”

Uche Eze, the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, however dismissed the report. He told News Express on phone this morning: “There was nothing like that. Ignore the report.”
