As a community, we see The Honourable Minister as a voice for racialized people in Alberta and across Canada.
Black people experience systemic and anti-Black Racism frequently, irrespective of what we do or how we do it. Based on the facts available to the public, We believe the Minister was unduly targeted because of his race, and his stand against certain elements in the police.
To the critics cited in the article and others questioning his right to call the police chief. They see the Minister as a token. He is the chief legal and justice officer, but he is not allowed or expected to LEAD! He has a voice, but he is muzzled, and he is not expected to SPEAK! When he dares to LEAD and or SPEAK, he is unlawfully targeted, ridiculed, and all his experience, skills, accolades, education ceases to matter.
