Where Chibok Girls Might Be Hidden

An elder in Borno State, Dr Gubio Bulama, has speculated that the Chibok girls kidnapped by the Boko Haram are likely hidden in bunkers in Sambisa forest, the strong hold of the insurgents.

Dr Bulama, who is also the Secretary of Borno elders forum, said the possibility of the insurgents hiding the missing girls in bunkers emerged from the fact that in time past, bunkers built by the terrorists have been discovered to have the capacity of holding about 500 people.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Bulama said there was the general suspicion in Borno, that Boko Haram had built bunkers in the Sambisa forest, where they may be hiding the girls.

“We are calling on the military to look into the possibility of the Boko Haram having serious bunkers, and we are even suspecting that the Chibok girls are living in bunkers.’’

He urged the military not to relent in its offensive against the terrorists until they were completely wiped out.

Boko Haram which is translated to ‘western education is sin’, has been waging a six year war against the Federal Government in a bid to establish an Islamic caliphate.

On April 14, 2014, the insurgents abducted about 219 girls from the Government Girls’ Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, in one of their many raids on surrounding towns.

In recent times, the Nigerian army has destroyed several camps, rescuing hundreds of women and children from the Sambisa forest, the group’s  stronghold, but the Chibok girls were not found among the rescued victims.
