Nyanya Bomb Blast: We Confessed Because Of Torture

The alleged masterminds of the April 14, 2014 Nyanya bomb blast have told a Federal High Court in Abuja that their confessions to the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) was made under duress.

The Nyanya bombing which has been described as one of the worst bombings to happen on Nigeria soil was allegedly masterminded by Aminu Ogwuche with the help of five collaborators.

According to Leadership report, the six suspects facing charges bothering on terrorism on Tuesday, May 19, told the court to disregard their earlier statements made to the DSS operatives on the grounds that it was made under duress.

The accused persons, Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche, Ahmed Abubakar, Mohammed Ishaq, Ya’u Saidu (alias Kofar Rama); Anas Isa, Adamu Yusuf and Nasir Abubakar claimed they were severely beaten and tortured by the operatives to get confessional statement from them.

The trial has been adjourned till June 2nd and 3rd, pending when the court will determine if the allegations of duress raised by the accused persons is admitable.
