The governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma has set the record straight over the hoodlums ravaging the south east region of Nigeria.
The governor who featured on the Tuesday edition of Channels TV Politics Today sspoke on what he has been doing to nip the problem in the bud once and for all.According to the governor, the problem of insecurity in the south East is more of political than what people believe it to be.
Trouble however started when the programme anchor, Seun Okinbaloye asked the governor if the Unknown Gunmen ravaging the state has any similarity with the bandits operating in the Northern part of the country.
Responding to the question, Uzodinma attacked Okinbaloye saying bandit is bandit any where. It is the people like him (Seun Okinbaloye) that are branding them as unknown Gunmen.
Uzodinma said all these jargons came from people like him who refused to nickname the criminals as bandits but rather call them unknown gunmen.
He explained that their mode of operations has no difference with that of the terrorists that are killing people in other part of the country.
The governor said he set up Ebubeagwu to reduce their level of operation but he cannot empower them like other regular security. He said their main objective is to provide intelligence, gather information and give to the federal security agencies.
They dont have what it takes to confront the terrorists due to the sophistication of their weapons.
However, Uzodinma insists that the criminals terrorizing the region are not unknown gunmen as branded but the same badits killing and kidnapping people everywhere in the country, and people should stop the jargons.
