Operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactical (SWAT) Team of the Nigeria Police, arrested the suspects.
No less than three men who were accused of breaking into the estate of late Emmanuel Ayodele Ashamu at Millennium Estate, Gbagada, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria have been arrested and then taken into custody, according to PM News.
The operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactical (SWAT) Team of the Nigeria Police, arrested the suspects.
Lagos Magistrate’s Court is currently handling the case of the three suspects, whose names have been given as Isiaq Tunde Sanni, 58; Yomi Aileru, 43 and Shakiru Balogun.
The Family of Late Emmanuel Ayodele Ashamu represented by their Legal Counsel, Adeola Ibrahim had petitioned the Nigeria Inspector General of Police, IGP that some persons had unlawfully entered into their Estate in dispute despite a court order handed down by Justice Candide Johnson in charge of Court 19 (Land and Chieftaincy Division) at the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, Lagos in 2008 in the Suit No.lD/1685/2007 restraining parties from further entry into the Estate.
The police said following the petition, the authority dispatched a crack team led by Inspector Fidelis Omage to Lagos to arrest the accused intruders.
The police arrested the accused at the disputed Estate while building structures despite the court order.
The Police in Abuja after investigation, relocated the suspects to the Lagos SWAT Command located at Adeniji Adele Road, Lagos Island, Lagos headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Steven Ogendegbe for them to be arraigned in Court.
The suspects were charged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court sitting at the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on three count charges bordering on contempt of court, malicious damage and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
Police Counsel, Abraham Fadipe told the court in the charge marked A/74/2022 that the accused committed the offence between 23 May and 25 September, 2022 at the Late Emmanuel Ayodele Ashamu Estate located at Millennium Estate, Gbagada, Lagos.
Fadipe informed the court that the accused deliberately forcefully entered into the Estate knowing full well that there was a court order restraining parties from further entry into the Estate, adding that the defendants unlawfully entered into the Estate to cause breach of peace.
He said the offences committed were punishable under sessions 411, 104(h) and 52 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
