A man identified as Gbesemehan Dewanu Solomon has been arrested for exhuming human skulls from graves in Ipokia area of Ogun State.
DAILY POST reported three months ago that dead bodies could no longer rest in peace in the ancient town of Ipokia as unknown ritualists invaded the town to dig graves for skulls.
At the last count, residents of Ipokia lamented that over 50 skulls had been removed from graves by ritualists who operated under the cover of darkness.
Without depending on the police and other security agents, the community leaders rose up in an effort to get the culprits arrested.
DAILY POST learnt that their efforts paid off on Tuesday when Solomon was arrested in the night in Idologun.
The suspect was about to dig a grave when he was nabbed by residents and was reportedly apprehended with a skull in his bag and his digging tools.
The Onipokia of Ipokia, Oba Yisa Olaniyan confirmed the incident to newsmen.
According to the monarch, the suspect has been handed over to the police and investigation has commenced immediately.
Oba Olaniyan appealed to the Ogun State police command to do everything necessary to fish out the accomplices of Solomon and those buying the skulls from him, saying, “we must get to the root of this matter and everybody involved must face the law, no matter who they are.”
The traditional ruler further disclosed that human skulls were recovered from the man’s house when it was searched by the police.
Contacted, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, promised to revert.
Meanwhile, police sources who confirmed the arrest to DAILY POST, said the suspect is still being interrogated.
