The Enugu police command has said it will prosecute three skit makers over a controversial prank video.

The video showed one of the ladies being assaulted by some men.

The suspects were identified as Obed Chekwube Ugwuanyi a.k.a. MC Sharp (male) 32; Chinenye Agbo a.k.a. Star Ella Ada (female) 26; and Anastasia Onu (female) 25.

In the now-viral video, the lady identified as Chinenye appeared to have been beaten, with her clothes torn and her hair forcefully shaved off.

The video provoked widespread condemnation from Nigerians.

In a statement on Tuesday, Ahmed Ammani, the commissioner of police, ordered a “thorough investigation” into the viral video.

The statement signed by Daniel Ndukwe, Enugu police spokesperson, added that upon further investigation, the trio claimed the “video was a prank and meant to garner followers”.

The CP added that those involved will be “prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to anyone who may want to perpetrate such an act under the guise of a prank”.

“Enugu police operatives arrest individuals involved in the viral video of young lady being beaten, stripped and hair forcefully shaved as CP Ammani orders thorough investigation and prosecution to serve as deterrent,” the statement read.

“Police operatives serving in Nsukka Area Command of the Enugu State Command, on 14/08/2023, identified and arrested one Obed Chekwube Ugwuanyi a.k.a. MC Sharp (male), aged 32. Chinenye Agbo a.k.a. Star Ella Ada (female), aged 26, and Anastasia Onu (female), aged 26.

“The trio and others at large are involved in the viral video wherein Chinenye was seen being beaten, her cloth torn and stripped, and her hair forcefully shaved on the allegation of beating up Anastasia, who is Obed’s girlfriend, and giving her a human bite on the chest.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the trio are, however, claiming that the video, which has generated public outcry and condemnation due to the inconceivable assault, inhuman and degrading treatments meted out on Chinenye as seen in the video, is a prank and meant to garner followers on their social media accounts.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahmed Ammani, while condemning the act, has ordered the State CID Enugu to thoroughly investigate and prosecute those found culpable, to serve as a deterrent to anyone who may want to perpetrate such an act under the guise of a prank.”

The development comes nearly two months after the arrest of Trinity Guy, the Oyo-based prankster born Maruff Adisa.

Adisa was remanded in Agodi prisons in Ibadan for allegedly sexualising a minor in his viral skit video.
