A final year student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, Asogwa Stanley, yesterday completed a 50 kilometre marathon in honour of Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
The music student took off from Nsukka town around 8 am and arrived Enugu capital city in the evening.
On arrival to Enugu, he jogged round the city, touching places like the Enugu North local government headquarters, Ogbete Market, the ever busy Shoprite and ended up at the government house where some friends and well wishers welcomed him.
However, at the Enugu Government House, security men at the gate told him that the Governor and his deputy were absent.
Speaking to journalists, Asogwa stated that he embarked on the race because “it gives me much joy that Nsukka man eventually became the Governor of Enugu State. I want to use the race to express my happiness on the development”.
He noted that as people across the state celebrated with the Governor in different ways, “as a student, I don’t have money to organize events for him like others might have done, but I know I can embark on this distant race and I have succeeded in doing so; I really thank God for giving me the strength”.
He further stated that he used the race to assure the governor that the youths in the state were solidly behind him.
He said, “during the. electioneering campaign, the youth supported him massively and I’m sure that the support has not changed; we will continue to partner with him”.
