The 83-year-old Retired Lt.Col. Nurse of the Nigerian Army and founder of Arrows of God Orphanage home, Mrs. Deborah Ogo, has been reminded at the Onitsha correctional facility for allegedly trading in humans. Mrs. Ogo Pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against her.  Justice Hauwa Yilwa of the Federal High Court, sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, granted her bail condition of 1.3 Million perfection and two sureties in like sum. The matter has been adjourned to July 10, 2024.

She was charged to court by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). Her arrest followed an in-depth investigation carried out by an undercover investigation by FIJ’s founder, Fisayo Soyombo, who uncovered the criminal activities in the orphanages owned by the accused.

In his undercover investigation, Soyombo explicitly bought a five-month-old child from Ogo Arrows of God Orphanage for N2 Million naira in July 2023 while feigning to be looking to adopt a child from that orphanage.

The investigation leading to her arrest and eventual prosecution stems from a two-year intense undercover investigation by the FIJ foundation wherein it was discovered that the retired Army Lt.Col, whilst masquerading as an orphanage proprietor, was selling children in her orphanage facilities in Lagos and Anambra.

The comprehensive investigation launched by NAPTIP in response to FIJ’s report led to Ogo’s arrest on October 3rd at the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare in Awka.
