Nine presidential planes to be sold

There are reports that President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered that nine of the planes in the presidential fleet be sold out to cut cost.

The fleet comprises no fewer than 16 aircraft.

Out of the 16 aircrafts, a few are unserviceable and need to be disposed of completely.

While some are serviceable, they are maintained at humongous cost to the federation account.

However, indications emerged that the President has directed that 9 of them be sold out, apparently to cut cost of governance.

Though, the presidency was yet to make any official announcement on the development, but ThisDay claimed that the new directive is with immediate effect.

According to an aviation source, who is aware of the directive to sell the aircraft, the presidency has a number of serviceable and unserviceable aircraft that need to be disposed of in order to reduce the amount spent by the federal government for aircraft maintenance annually.

“Nine, which still have market value, are to be sold immediately to reduce maintenance costs,” he said.

DAILY POST recalls that President Buhari had prior to assumption of office criticized heavily excess spending in government, saying his administration would tackle such excesses.
