ERADICATION OF BEGGING CULTURE: Emir of the blind solicits support for destitute to eradicate begging

Alhaji Ado Halilu, the Sarkin Makafi (Emir of the blind) in Kano, has called on wealthy individuals to support the destitute in order to eradicate begging among them permanently.

He made the call while receiving bags of rice for the blind people in Kano donated by the former Head of State, retired General Abdussalam Abubakar in Kano on Saturday.

He said that if wealthy individuals could continue to support the less privileged in the society, they should have no reason to go out on the streets to beg.

He commended the effort of the former Nigerian Head of State for the annual donation of food items to the destitute across the country and urged others to emulate him.

The Emir of the disabled persons, Alhaji Salisu Isyaka, expressed satisfaction with the gesture and prayed God to reward him abundantly.

He urged other organisations and government at all levels to support the needy to reduce social vices in the society.

Speaking on behalf of General Abubakar, a lecturer at the Sa'adatu Rimi College of Education, Kano, Dr Isma’il Idris said that the gesture was aimed at supporting the needy during Ramadan period.

“More than 1, 000 destitute are expected to benefit from the distribution of the food items which will be delivered to their door steps.”

He commended the beneficiaries for their continuous prayers for the general, pointing out that the prayers had been the source of support for him.

NAN reports that over 1, 000 destitute are expected to benefit from the gesture in Kano for Ramadan feeding. (NAN)
