Eko Club of Canada raises fund for the underprivileged in Nigeria

Eko Club of Canada is a Charity organization  with the central idea of addressing  the issue of Poverty, health care delivery, and other supporting activities for the underprivileged ones  in Lagos, Nigeria.  These materials, both human and material resources are channeled through Medical Mission Lagos, Nigeria (Mission of Hope).  This happens once in two years.

Eko Club of Canada had their Fundraising event on Sunday,  Cruising around on a big boat.  Boarding started at 6.30pm on a boat called; Pioneer Princess on Lakeshore Boulevard and all members and guests were on white attire.

One of the Organizers of the event; Ms Funmi Olumade  likened the event to the Good Samaritan in the Bible.  In her words “We should not stand by and look at the way our people are suffering at home without doing anything to help them”.

The President of the club Ms Kemi explained in a jiffy a short achievement of the Club,  “Eko Club International (ECI) is a not-for-profit organization of Lagosians (citizens of Lagos State, Nigeria) in USA, Canada and Europe.   We embarked on a life changing mission, a medical mission to Lagos State, Nigeria in the summer of 2007”.  Kemi went further  that “The purpose of that mission in 2007  was to provide free health services to the less privileged members of the society and to complement the efforts of the government in the area of health care delivery. During the two-week mission, the medical team treated over 10,000 people with many more thousands turned away. The lack of access to basic health care services resulted in the thousands of people thronging the medical mission sites beyond our capacity that year”.

Talking to the past President of Eko Club Canada Mr. Macaulay, he said “It is evident that the government cannot do all these things alone, hence the need to embark on a trip once in two years to Lagos State to assist in the provision of whatever we could provide to assist the Lagosians”.   Ms. Funmi Olumade confirmed that  “in 2008, the Mission was able to provide free health care to over 20,000 people.  Dental and surgical procedures were also carried out.

Eko Club Canada has concluded to go to Lagos next year 2016 to provide their normal ritual free health care as well as Health education on personal care, high blood pressure, asthma, diabetes, rheumatism, tuberculosis etc.
